AUDIENCE A (Eric): With the sad events of the kidnap and murder of Mr. Pearl, I mean how do you prepare yourself mentally going out to say like Afghanistan, thinking that it could you last mission? How do you prepare and do you ever talk to your family?

Correspondent : Yes, I talk to my family a great deal about this. They're very concerned about my safety. The case of Daniel Pearl is very difficult, because remember he was kidnapped. He was abducted and killed in a city like Karachi. He wasn't on a front line. He was in a city, admittedly a very rough city. But I think it underlines the fact that it's an extremely dangerous world out there. And the people who died in the World Trade Center, you know, they didn't think they were taking much of a risk being up there, but they're dead now too. So it's a very dangerous world out there, and there are lots of risks that we all have to take every day.

Correspondent : No. I mean I personally try to stay away from cover of any military force, simply because when you're in a conflict situation and you ally yourself or you put yourself too much in the hands of one side or the other, of course, you're vulnerable to attack from the other side.

So as much as possible, although it's not always possible, but as much as possible, the best situation is to try and do it alone.

Correspondent : No, I don't carry weapons, not ever, especially not in a combat zone. It's irresponsible because when you are in these extremely volatile situations, the last thing you want to do is to be seen by one warring side or the other as a combatant. You don't want to be seen as somebody who is a legitimate target. And if you have a weapon, that's how they will see you. And you could end up being shot.
